Many UK consumers are now using Octopus Energy as their favoured electricity and gas supplier. The company has grown fast in the UK market, with an innovative approach that includes better levels of customer service than are usually experienced in the sector.
For electric vehicle drivers, Octopus has another key attraction – a cheap overnight charging tariff that means it is possible to fill up the average EV for less than £5. Depending on where you are in the UK, it can be that you pay just 7p per kWh for electricity, during a cheap overnight period when you are asleep in bed. Octopus claim that their Octopus Intelligent Go tariff is the UK’s most popular EV tariff.
A Game-Changer for EV Drivers
While Octopus is not unique – other companies including British Gas, OVO and Utility Warehouse have cheap overnight charging tariffs – the difference with Octopus has been that it has built a lead in having chargers that integrate fully with the company’s internal systems. This means you simply plug in your EV during the evening, and Octopus calculates how much electricity your car needs. It then allocates charging periods at times when the electricity grid is less stressed, and when electricity is at its greenest, often being generated from wind farms.
They promote several charger brands on its website, but now there are additional brands available that fully integrate with Octopus, and one of these is Indra. Their new, and improved lineup of charger models presents a great opportunity to come on board with Octopus, with a choice of both budget and stylish options.
Indra units are fully featured smart chargers, operated via their Indra-developed app, available on Apple and Android platforms. They are made in the UK and are fully supported by a UK customer service team. Solar compatible, they can be set to charge your car purely from a home solar PV array on sunny days. They are easily linked during setup to integrate with Octopus and other time-of-day tariffs.Â
Model Types
There are two models to choose from, and both can be fitted by the professional installation teams at The Full EV.
Indra Smart Pro
This stylish white charger is available in either socketed or tethered versions. A full-featured smart charger, it measures just 420mm high and 200mm wide. The tethered version comes with an attached cable of either 6m or 9.4m length. Homeowners choosing the tethered model will find the design of the charger body enables the charging cable to be tidily looped around it.
Indra Smart LUX
A fully featured charger, the LUX can be supplied with a front panel in one of four finishes: black, white, Malvern stone, or Elgar grey. Barely larger than a sheet of A4 paper at 306mm tall and 201mm wide, its party piece is how shallow the unit is, at just 78mm deep. The model comes with a tethered cable of either six or ten metres, which will wrap around the charger body when not in use.
