Government grants to help companies shift to electric vehicles

It is summer 2025, and here is an update on the key government grants available, if you are considering a switch to electric cars, vans or trucks. The government, via OZEV, the Office for Zero Emission Vehicles, is making money available to support the transition.

If you want to take advantage of EV charger grants, then you need to make contact with an OZEV registered installer of EV chargers, such as The Full EV. We can help streamline the process of designing, specifying and installing EV chargers, so you buy right first time. And we’ll support your grant applications, too.

Depot Charging Scheme

The big one. If your organisation is of the right scale, and looking to transition a fleet to EV, then you could claim up to £1 million, for a grant to cover up to 75% of the costs of installing electric vehicle chargers. To be clear, and quoting from the government website:

“The scheme covers 75% of chargepoint and civil costs incurred, up to a maximum of £1 million across all sites. There is no limit to the number of sites you can apply for, but the scheme is limited to one application per organisation.”

Electric vehicle chargepoint and infrastructure grant for landlords – perfect for forward-thinking commercial landlords

Time to update your light industrial or office property, to make it more attractive to tenants? Then you can claim £350 per charger, for installing EV chargers in your car parking spaces. Chargers can be an additional revenue stream for your business, too – ask us for details.

Electric vehicle infrastructure grant for staff and fleets

If you’re a smaller business with up to 249 staff, there are grants available to support your installation of chargers. Two grants are on offer, one of £350 per charger installed, plus a further £500 per parking space that has cabling installed – up to a maximum £15,000. So you can get a grant for planning ahead, and being future ready.

Electric vehicle grants

As well as charging infrastructure grants, the UK government is also supporting the purchase of commercial electric vehicles.

Vans can attract a grant of £2,500 to £5,000, depending on their size and weight. Trucks, too, are eligible for a grant discount. The sum is £16,000 for trucks up to 12 tonnes, and up to £25,000 for larger trucks.

All of these vehicle grants will be deducted from the purchase price of a new vehicle – or will be factored into the financing costs of a leased vehicle.
