This article outlines the range of UK government grants available to support the cost of installing an electric vehicle charger, at your house or flat, workplace, commercial premises or educational institution.

There are six ways you can claim a grant towards installing an electric vehicle charger, listed below. Home charger grant for renters and flat owners
If you own and live in a flat, with a parking space, or rent any residential property with its own, off the street parking, then you can apply for a charger grant of £350.
Workplace chargers
An OZEV grant of up to £350 per charger is available for businesses, charities, public sector organisations and also small accommodation businesses, for installing an electric vehicle charger – up to a maximum of 40 chargers. Applicants can either own the property, or have permission from their landlord for the works.
There are some use restrictions, to qualify for the grant. If you are a business, then the chargers are primarily for your staff and company vehicle use – but you can open up the chargers to local residents, outside of normal business hours. If a public authority, charity or small accommodation business, there is no restriction on usage, with customers, guests, visitors or staff all welcome to make use of the chargers.
Grants for chargers at schools and colleges
Introduced in 2024, this generous grant pays 75% of the cost of installing chargers at a school or educational establishment, so long as it is state-funded – private schools cannot apply. The grant has a maximum of £2,500 per charger, and will be paid up to a maximum 40 sockets.
Funds to support landlords – charger and infrastructure grants
This grant is designed for residential or commercial blocks, perhaps with an underground car park or allocated parking bays. It can be applied for by a landlord, management company, social housing provider, charity or public sector organisation. Chargepoint are to be for staff and resident use, not open to the general public. There are two grants – one is £350 per chargepoint, the other is up to £500 per parking space for supporting infrastructure, such as cabling, so long as preparations are made for at least five chargers.
Financial support for businesses with staff parking – charger and infrastructure grants
This grant is for works to at least five parking spaces – either full installation of a charger, or preparatory works for future charger installs with at least one charger installed initially. The chargers must be for staff and company vehicle use, not for public use. You can receive up to £350 per chargepoint installed, and up to £500 per parking space enabled.
Grant support for households with on-street parking
This grant is available only to homes without off-street parking, but where it is possible to park on the street. You’ll need to arrange a safe way to get the charging cable across the street in an approved channel, such as those provided by Kerbocharge or Charge Gulley – these can only be installed with the approval of the local authority, and not all have yet cleared these for installation. However, if you are lucky to be in area where this sort of channel can be installed, you can claim an OZEV grant of £350 towards your charger installation.
