Faircharge, the UK campaign pushing for better electric vehicle charging for all of us, has launched a new public charging charter.
The broad based initiative is supported by supported by Robert Llewellyn’s Fully Charged Show, trade body Recharge UK, and EV disability champion ChargeSafe. And the new charter also has the backing of motoring organisation the RAC.
“I’ve written to the new energy secretary urging her to support this campaign and help boost the UK’s energy independence and security,” said FairCharge founder, Quentin Willson.
“We’ve produced this charter after talking to hundreds of EV drivers and it represents their wish list for building a world-class public charging network. Government, operators, councils, and local authorities should reflect on what these pioneering drivers of EVs have told us.”
The charter calls for a reliability guarantee, and a commitment to repair defective chargers within 48 hours. Better signage will also be required, both on terms and conditions around parking and charging times, and on pricing. Faircharge also found strong support from those they spoke to, around simpler contactless card payment systems, and on providing VAT receipts in a digital format.
