New statistics just released in the UK prove just how long lasting electric vehicle batteries can be.
Data provided by the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency, detailing Teslas currently driving on the UK’s roads, provide clear proof of manufacturer claims, that battery packs in electric cars will last the distance. The news should reduce concerns among some who have yet to move to an EV, who are worried that batteries might need to be replaced during a car’s normal life.
The DVSA has revealed there are more than 720 Teslas on UK roads that have run further than 100,000 miles – and 38 that have gone further than 200,000 miles. Three of those cars have travelled further than 300,000 miles, with the highest recorded Tesla mileage to date being 377,989 miles – or 15 times around the world.
Teslas have been on UK roads for just nine years, and Tesla business owner Elon Musk has previously declared that Tesla traction batteries should last for 300,000 to 500,000 miles before being depleted or needing replacement.
The data from DVSA was requested by leasing website LeaseLoco.
The cheapest, early Teslas are the large, luxury Model S and are now available on the second hand market for as little as £20,000. For the lucky few who can find them, some early models came with free supercharging for the life of the car, dramatically cutting running costs.
